If I am to meet my self-imposed goal I have to read and mark up 173 pages of Vega today to finish the thing and get on to the next stages of editing. So, can I do it? I could, if I were Stephen King (I spent my allocated editing time reading Misery, with subsequent nightmares of getting my limbs chopped off for slacking). Given that I’m me and there are some parts in the book when I feel tempted to put it down (gotta mark these parts!), it’ll take more time. Or more determination.

The good news is that there are good parts in the book. And I’m feeling more alive than I used to a couple of days ago.

Feeling alive is a good, good thing.

total makeover

Today, I took the Project Humanity and rewrote it from zero.
Changing my protagonist to the direct opposite.
Rendering the story, if I can trust my husband, 2-3 times better.

I know there is a lesson in there, I’m just a bit too tired to learn it.

Project Humanity

Yesterday, I put off my regular Vega-writing to whip up a 2000+ word story, now named Project Humanity. I’m fairly happy with the idea and feel, although now I think I’ll have to add three scenes or so to get a proper ending, change stuff along the middle and do some research in order to stay within the limits of SF, however soft it might be.

It’s almost impossible to do that now while the kids are afoot and bread is baking and everything is happening at once, so I’ll have to delay it until evening.

This is how the Wordle for my story-in-editing, Mermaid’s Song (yea, the title will most likely get edited too), looks from wordle point of view.
I’m just going to edit half of the just‘s out and see if I can find better words for those nondescript ones that keep repeating. No thesaurus-bonking, just a little bit of awareness.

Since this has been a day of mostly slacking. 300 words done and they’re not good enough… I’m approaching the point where the mystery starts unfolding, and it’s talk talk talk, and while I’m good with dialogue, it still takes time to do it properly… time and inspiration, and clear understanding of what has passed.
Anyhow, just to heighten my interest in the novel, here’s the list of what else should I do:
- lick up and resubmit Mermaid’s song,
- re-plot and re-write some scenes of The Final Turn (I already know where it goes so it’s fine),
- plot and write another Critter story (haha, that’ll go down well),
+ re-cap and put in a single notebook all pending ideas.
