colleagues in trade
Yesterday, I met a Latvian writer friend (well, he’s actually a poet but he is considering writing prose once he “figures out how”) and we shared a half an hour or hour in a mutual “oh and I read this book, it’s a *bible*, I tell you” and “I’ll give you that one to read, it’s great” and frantic scribbling in our notebooks to note down which books we must read and share.
Also, some amusing facts about how titles like “creative insights” and “writing a novel” magically turn to “52 steps to write a bestseller” and “how to write like a genius” in Latvian and Russian translations (*these are semi-fictional examples since I didn’t write it all down, but you get the gist). It’s no wonder we despise how-to books over here.
Also, I did a lot of planning for NaNo (turns out StoryBook actually does help to structurize things the way I like) and wrote one more scene for The Keyman, introducing a different kind of conflict.
